September 2009 ONRA Board bus tour
The ONRA Board of Trustees embarked on a bus tour of the western portion of the Ohio National Road in lieu of their regular Board meeting on September 22, 2009. This trip complimented the Eastern Bus Tour which had been held in March. The Western trip began at Johnson’s Lamp Shop near South Vienna in Clark County. Once on the bus, the Board conducted their bi-monthly meeting while deadheading to the Indiana line via I-70, where the group toured Richmond’s National Road Visitor’s Center. From there the group headed east on the National Road into Ohio’s Preble County, while ONRA board members Dave Wesler, Jane Lightner, and Jan Livingston Brady gave tremendous insight into their portion of the National Road. Then it was on into Montgomery County and the city of Englewood, where former Mayor and current ONRA Secretary, Ed Kemper took over as the tour guide. While in Englewood, the group visited the Randolph Township Historical Society museum. After touring the facility, it was on to the Aullwood Audubon Center for a delicious lunch catered by Springfield’s Joe’s US 40 Grille. Their next stop was the Historical Society of Vandalia-Butler for a tour of their historic 6-acre property, after which the group followed the Road through Miami County on to their final destination for a guided tour of the Heritage Center in Clark County. The photo was taken at the Springfield museum. The Board’s “Western Rolling Retreat” was a tremendous success and enjoyed by all who attended.
Thanks to everyone involved!
